ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Anchorage man has been arrested in the beating of a woman he paid to have sex with.

David Krause, 38, was arrested early Saturday and charged with third-degree assault.

Police say Krause and the 32-year-old woman acknowledge that Krause picked her up on Spenard Road at about 1 a.m. Saturday. The two reportedly went to Krause's home.

The woman told police that Krause later began to strangle her and then beat her in the head with binoculars.

The woman tried to reach for a knife but failed, police said. Afterward, Krause reportedly drove the woman to a street corner and dropped her off. The city's community patrol found the woman bleeding and called police.

Krause has denied the attack. But officers found bloody binoculars and other evidence at his home, according to police.

The woman was been treated at an Anchorage hospital.
