BIG LAKE (AP) -- A 31-year-old Wasilla man died after the snowmachine he was driving smashed head-on into a pickup near Big Lake, Alaska State Troopers said.

Calvin Toal was pronounced dead Monday night at Valley Hospital, trooper spokesman Greg Wilkinson said.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. near Big Lake Road and the Parks Highway, troopers said.

Toal was driving a snowmachine. The truck he collided with was driven by Joseph O'Brien, 34, of Anchorage. O'Brien was cited for driving while his license was suspended, Wilkinson said.

Troopers were still on the scene late Monday night.
