Good day to all my Nikiski neighbors.

After a nice holiday break, area schools will resume today. Remember to watch for buses and little ones waiting in the chilly mornings.

Have you heard the phrase "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day?" Starting today, the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Nutrition Services will begin serving breakfast to the Nikiski North Star Elementary students before school. The cost for a full breakfast is $1.50, or $.30 for those with reduced lunch.

Those students receiving a free lunch will also receive a free breakfast.

I have been noticing more and more of those Nikiski Firefighter T-shirts being worn around town.

The shirts, available in three sizes, can be purchased at Nikiski Fire Station No. 1 to support the Nikiski Fire Fighter Association. The Nikiski Fire Department also has a snazzy informative Web site at http://www.borough.kenai.ak.us/NikiskiFire/webpages/home.htm.

Yolondia Rodland-Knodel is the care coordinator for the Nikiski Senior Center.

Her job is to lend in-home support, including chores, respite and care coordination to assist seniors so they can age in place. Anyone needing extra help should call Yolondia at 776-7586 or 776-7654.

Nikiski pool water aerobics classes will start at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. The cost is $3.50 per class. For more information, call 776-8800.

The Nikiski Fire Service Area board of directors will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nikiski Fire Station No. 1. The meeting is open to the public.

A game night will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Nikiski Senior Center. For more information, call 776-7654.

The Weight Watchers Program will begin at 4 p.m. Jan. 14 at the elementary school. For more information, call Sharon at 262-7534.

The monthly Nikiski Senior Center Board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Nikiski Senior Center. The meeting is open to public comment from 12:45 to 1 p.m.

The deadline for youth volleyball and seventh- and eighth-grade basketball is Jan. 14. For more information, call Tammy at 776-8800.

A teen night will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. For more information, call 776-8800.

The scrappy crafters will not meet during the month of January.

The hostess is currently taking a break. For more information, call the Nikiski Senior Center at 776-7654.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Diane Aldridge on Jan. 8, to Aileen Wilson on Jan. 9, Wenda Kennedy and Ray Nickleson on Jan. 10 and Roy Inman on Jan. 13.

Happy anniversary wishes go to William and Maxine Bullington on Jan. 11.
