SoHi cagers fall to Barrow

The Soldotna girls and boys basketball teams both lost to Barrow on Thursday at the Grace Grizzlies Basketball Classic in Anchorage.

The girls dropped a 67-41 decision to the Whalers. Barrow led 18-9 after the first quarter and 36-22 at halftime. Jessie Duke had 14 points to lead the Stars, while Heidi Westerman added 11. For Barrow, Melissa Gerke had 18 points, Lynette Hepa had 14 points and Nicole Smith had 13 points.

The Barrow boys defeated Soldotna 58-45. The game was all even at halftime, but Barrow raced to a 12-point lead in the third quarter. Zach Jackson dumped in 17 points to pace the Stars.

Mount St. Elias

The Cook Inlet Academy boys and girls got off to a good start at the Mount St. Elias Basketball Tournament in Yakutat on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Thursday, the Cook Inlet Academy girls notched a victory over Sitka. CIA jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter and made it stand up.

Tiana McGahan paced the Eagles with 13 points, while Sarah Ady had 14 for the Wolves. Stefania Potrzuski added 10 for the Wolves.

In Wednesday boys action, CIA topped Yakutat 58-47. CIA controlled the game by taking a 22-6 lead after one quarter.

David Reischach buried five 3-pointers en route to 21 points, while Matthew Moffis had 16 points and Cody Munn added 11. For Yakutat, Rex Newlun pumped in 21 points.

In Thursday boys action, Moffis poured in 45 points as CIA topped Hoonah 71-62. Cody Munn added 10 for the Eagles, while Kristian Grese had 28 points for Hoonah.
