The Arctic Winter Games announced Thursday that Sports Manager Chris Hayes has resigned due to health concerns.
AWG General Manager Tim Dillon will assume the responsibilities of Sports Manager for the remaining months leading up to the circumpolar sporting event. Dillon has spent the past several weeks covering the duties of sports manager already.
“I have basically been picking up the slack on the things that he was doing,” Dillon said. “The final (appointment) didn’t get done until (Thursday).”
Those duties include the final stages of event planning and the implementation of the sporting events, which are each managed by committee chairs who work with volunteers and officials. The sports chairs will now work under Dillon.
“I’m actually meeting with every one of the 20 sports chairs, finalizing everything from equipment purposes, volunteers, facility setup, officials, all those kinds of things,” he said.
Dillon is confident there will be no disruption resulting from Hayes’ departure.
“I have absolutely no concern that we won’t be able to build on the things Chris put together.”
