Pedestrian killed crossing downtown Anchorage street

Posted: Wednesday, January 09, 2002

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A pedestrian died Tuesday morning when he was struck by a pickup truck on a downtown Anchorage street.

Dick K. Evan, 66, was struck at 7:12 a.m. on Fourth Avenue near Karluk Street by a pickup truck driven by Todd Srala, 33.

Witnesses told police that Evan had just gotten off a bus on the south side of the street and was attempting to cross. They said Evan apparently noticed the eastbound pickup truck in the center lane and attempted to hurry across. The pickup struck Evan in the north lane.

Police said alcohol did not appear to have been a factor in the accident. No citations had been issued as of Tuesday afternoon.
