ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An airplane mechanic murdered on the Kenai Peninsula last week may have been killed during a robbery, Alaska State Troopers said Tuesday.

Troopers continue to investigate the death of Gerald Sibley, 61, found dead Friday at an airplane hangar at a private airstrip near Mile 18 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Sibley lived in an apartment in the hangar.

Sibley was shot, troopers said, and tools and other items are missing from the hangar.

Investigators released no other details but put out a call for information regarding the case, even if it seems irrelevant.

Sibley's body was flown to Anchorage for an autopsy by the state medical examiner's office.
