Wasilla to host adult hockey tournament

The City of Wasilla and Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce are hosting the first annual Iditarod Days Adult Hockey Classic March 11-14. The tournament features two age divisions for male players: Eight teams of over-25 and four teams of over-40. Teams are guaranteed at least three games, plus playoffs, skills competition, T-shirts, prizes and more.

The entry fee is $1,000 with the proceeds donated to United Way of Mat-Su. Registration is first come, first served. For more information, contact Sammye Pokryfki at 373-5821 or by e-mail uwmsb@mtaonline.net.

MicMacs take to ice Friday

The 6-1 Peninsula MicMacs will face off Friday night against Solid of Anchorage at the Soldotna Sports Center. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Cost of admission is $5.

Nikiski hockey floors Kenny Lake

The Nikiski High School hockey team skated to an 11-2 Greatland Conference win Thursday, defeating Kenny Lake at Jason Peterson Memorial Ice Rink in Nikiski.

Zack Womack and Mike O'Brien each recorded four points for the Bulldogs, each with a goal and three assists. Nick Russell had two goals and an assist, Israel Blatchford and Brett Allemann each scored two goals, and Lex Litzen and Jabin Flensburg each recorded a goal and an assist.

Luke Hardesty recorded 21 saves for the win while the Bulldogs fired 38 shots on the Kenny Lake net.

The Bulldogs' effort also gave coach Bob Bird his 100th career win as a high school coach.
