Lawrence "Larry" Ray McCubbins
Homer resident Lawrence Ray McCubbins died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005. He was 66.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel in Homer.
Mr. McCubbins was born July 29, 1938, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Vera and Ray McCubbins. His family moved to Fairbanks, where he attended grade school, later moving to Kalispell, Mont., where he graduated from high school.
He enjoyed woodworking and playing chess, and he loved his grandkids.
Mr. McCubbins eventually moved back to Alaska, where he worked in construction and as an operator of turbine generation systems in the Bush.
It was in Juneau where he met his wife, Donna, in 1964. They were married two years later. They made their home in Anchorage, where they lived for 10 years, moving to the Kenai Peninsula in 1976 and eventually to Homer in 1981.
They raised six children Wendi, Laura, twins Lance and Lawrence Jr., Jonathan and Shaulane.
Mr. McCubbins was preceded in death by his son, Scott Mathew; two sisters; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, of more than 38 years; his six children; 18 grandchildren; and 13 siblings.
