Chugiak nips SkyHi, wins Kenai Duals

The championship dual meet of the Kenai Duals came down to the final match Saturday at Kenai Central High School, with Chugiak scoring a pin in the decisive match to win the tournament.

Brady Schultz, wrestling at 112 pounds for Chugiak, registered the decisive pin to break a 33-33 tie. Chugiak won the dual meet 39-33 to win the tournament.

The Panthers had made it into the finals with a 44-25 victory over East in Friday's opening round. Saturday morning, Skyview then edged Bartlett 39-38 in the semifinals to move into the matchup with Chugiak.

The next highest finish from the Kenai Peninsula at the eight-team tournament came from Soldotna, which finished fifth. The Stars lost to Chugiak 47-27 in the opening round Friday, but then came back Saturday to beat Kenai 71-3 and Homer 46-24 for fourth place.

Homer ended up in sixth place. The Mariners lost to Bartlett 47-32 in the opening round Friday. Homer then took the tiebreaker Saturday to win a dual meet that was tied at 24 with East.

The Kardinals finished last at the tournament. Kenai lost in the opening round 65-6 Friday. After the Saturday loss to Soldotna, the Kardinals fell 57-12 to East in the seventh-place dual meet.

Dimond defeated Bartlett 42-32 to take third place at the tournament.
