Kenai tops Chugiak

The Kenai Central hockey team picked up a 3-2 victory over Chugiak Friday at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.

The Kardinals jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first period. Trevor Baldwin then gave the Kardinals a 3-1 lead in the second period when he scored on an assist by Cody Carver.

In the third period, the Mustangs turned up the heat, putting 14 shots on goal to Kenai's three. Kenai goalie Dan Silver, who finished with 25 saves, allowed just one goal during the third period.

The result of Kenai's Saturday game at Dimond was not available as the Clarion went to press.

After falling behind 1-0, the Cougars took control of the game over Soldotna Friday. The Stars received goals from Clayton Glick and Matt Vasilie, while Brennan Best, Jeff Kennedy, Brian Herring and Kevin Laurion had assists.
