GLENNALLEN (AP) -- The Copper Basin 300, one of the state's premier mid-distance sled dog races, gets under way Saturday in Glennallen.
Forty mushers, including three past champions, have signed up for the race, which is a qualifier for the Iditarod.
2002 champion Hans Gatt will be defending his title. Other past winners racing include Paul Gebhardt, who won the race in 2000 and John Schandelmeier, who won in 1990.
Twenty-three of the mushers are rookies.
