Lifelong Alaskan Joseph Dale Denison died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, from an aneurysm at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. He was 37.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska, 9711 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post No. 10046 and the American Legion Post No. 20. His ashes will be scattered at the family cabin in Cooper Landing and at Mt. Redoubt at a later date.

Mr. Denison was born Nov. 10, 1970, in Homer. He graduated in 1989 from Brainerd High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and served on board the U.S.S. America CV-66 during Desert Storm and was honorably discharged. He worked for Capital Boiler Works in Fairfax, Va., from 1993 to 1997 and for Ireland Marine in Chesapeake, Va., in 1997. Later that year he began working as a welder for VECO at Tesoro in Kenai. From 1997 to 1998 he worked for Arctic Fabricators in Prudhoe Bay. From 1998 to 2000 he worked for Peak Oilfield Services in Nikiski. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a welder for ASRC and in 2003 he began working for CH2M Hill as the QA/QC welder supervisor for the Kenai operations. He donated to the United Way as well as the Kenai Peninsula Boys and Girls Club.

"He will be greatly missed by his son and family," the family said.

Mr. Denison was preceded in death by his fraternal grandparents, Annabelle and Bill Eylar; maternal grandfather, George A. Denison; uncle, "Mac" McArthur.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Marc Denison of Kenai; maternal grandmother, Shirley M. Henley and her husband, Sam, of Kenai; mother, Ruth H. Denison of Kenai; father, Bill D. Eylar of Libbey, Mont.; his love, Lona Saylor of Kenai; brother, Marc W. Denison and his wife, Kristine, of Sterling; sisters, Alaina Linebarger and her husband, Justin, of Soldotna and Holly Hernandez and her husband, David of Wasilla; nieces, Ashley Gerola and Victoria Denison of Sterling and Mariah Ruth Ann Hernandez of Wasilla; aunts, Ginger Kaona and her husband, Ed, of Kenai, Dr. Glenda Grawe and her husband, Win of Spring, Texas and Donna McArthur of Arizona; cousins, Keoki and Sarah Kaona and their family, Kiona and Meliko, Kele and Ryan Hathaway, Kawika and Melia of Redding Calif., Willy Grawe of Madison, Wash., Ki, Tina and Raeanne Grawe of Spring, Ginger and Chris Heuer of Provo, Utah, Hannah, Samuel, Denali, Lizzi and Kelly Grawe of Spring and John and Teresa McArthur of Anchorage; and many other extended family members.
