Idaho Falls, Idaho resident Garry Forrest Daniels died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at his home with his wife and daughter at his side. He was 67.

Mr. Daniels' family will celebrate his life in the summer of 2010 in a private ceremony, where his ashes will be set free at his favorite lookout spot in Idaho.

Mr. Daniels was born on Jan. 29, 1942, to Forrest Cree Daniels and Norma Jeanne Daniels (Lee) in Baker, Ore. He spent his childhood in Halfway, Ore. He spent years working on construction projects around both Oregon and Idaho. Mr. Daniels joined the Army Nov. 1, 1966, in Boise, Idaho, and was then transferred to Presidio of San Francisco. He served four years in active duty as an enlisted Administrative Specialist and was honorably discharged. He received a National Defense Service medal and a Good Conduct medal during his service.

In 1980, he moved with his family to Soldotna to take a position in the petroleum industry. He quickly moved up the ranks to Operator, where he spent 18 years. After retirement he and his wife moved back to Idaho.

Mr. Daniels was an avid outdoorsman, his family said. He loved to fish, hunt, four-wheel, and take endless photos of wildlife, rocks, flowers, birds and anything that came in front of his camera lens. His favorite of favorite places were in the mountains. He felt the closest to nature when in the mountains and was always relaxed and at peace there. Mr. Daniels' family was the most important thing to him.

"He will be missed by all who know and loved him. He was someone who was always there whenever an extra hand or kind word was needed. The world lost a great man when Garry left us. Now he will soar with the eagles, swim with the fish, run with the animals and keep a watchful eye on mother nature. That is who he was and will always be," his family said.

Mr. Daniels was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Cree Daniels; children, Tracy and Britt Daniels; sister, Ronda Jeanne Maki (Daniels); mother, Norma Jeanne Daniels (Lee).

He is survived by his wife, Linda Daniels; children, Kaci and son-in-law Tony Gillham of Soldotna, Lonni and husband Casey McDonough of Eagle, Idaho, Craig and wife Robin Davison of Kuna, Idaho; brother Gregory and wife Janice Daniels of Kenai; aunt Margie Sagers of Halfway, Ore.; cousins Gordon Lee of Union, Ore., Dennis and wife Inez Curtis of Halfway, Oregon and Thomas Curtis also of Halfway, Ore.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made is Mr. Daniels' name to the American Cancer Society, 2676 S. Vista Avenue, Boise, Idaho, 83705.
