Governor to visit Kenai

The city of Kenai will host a reception for Gov. Sean Parnell at the Kenai Visitors Center Monday from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Cookies and coffee will be provided.

Fish and Game advisory committees to hold elections

The Kenai/Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet Monday at the Soldotna Sports Complex at 6:30 p.m. to hold elections and prepare comments for the Board of Game Statewide meeting. For more information contact Mike Crawford at 252-2919.

The Central Peninsula Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ninilchik School to hold elections, prepare comments for the Board of Game Statewide meeting and begin discussions of Cook Inlet Board of Fish proposals. The Cooper Landing Fish and Game Advisory Committee will hold elections on Friday at 6:30 pm at the Community Building. Also on the agenda will be preparation of comments on Board of Game statewide proposals, Cooper Landing Walkable Community Project, Fish and Game study methods -- impacts versus results and a Hudry Project update. Brown Bears seek volunteers

The Kenai River Brown Bears Junior A hockey team is seeking volunteers in a number of areas, including ticketing, gate check, merchandise, gaming, penalty box, goal judge and other roles. A meeting for those interested is planned for Monday at 7 p.m. at the Soldotna Sports Center.

Spaghetti feed planned

A spaghetti feed fndraiser is planned for Tim McGahan, who lost his home to a fire on Dec. 20. The event is planned for Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Kenai. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children and will include door prizes. A Chinese auction and silent auction are planned. Also, an account has been established at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union. Donations may be made to the account for Tomothy Victor McGahan.

Cribbage tournament returns

The Cook Inlet Lions cribbage tournament continues Saturdays at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 20 on Cook Street in Kenai. The public is invited to participate. For more information, call Raymond at 776-5688 or Bob at 776-5339.

Indoor soccer registration open

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Kenai Peninsula is currently taking registrations for the 2010 indoor soccer season. This event is open to youth ages 4 (by Feb. 5) through fifth grade. Deadline to register is 4 p.m. on Feb. 5. This deadline is firm and late registation will be done on a space available basis. Registration is done at the Kenai Rec Center. Cost is $60 and must be a current 2010 member. Practices start the week of March 22. For more information, call the athletic department at 283-3318.

Beekeepers to meet

The local area beekeepers group BKEEP will hold it's monthly meeting Tuesday at the Soldotna Middle School at 6 p.m. Officer elections and a discussion of topics to address for the coming year are scheduled, as is a color and taste comparison of various local honeys. Swim lessons make a splash at Kenai pool

American Red Cross Level 1 swim lessons will begin Jan. 18 and run through Feb. 1 from 5:10 to 5:50 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Kenai Central High School pool. Registration must be done in advance; call 283-7476 for more information.
