Kasilof

Greetings from beautiful downtown Kasilof.

Good Tuesday to you. If the weather is any indication, we're into January and under its cold spell. While I might complain of sub-zero temperatures and my subsequent slavery to a wood stove when the mercury drops, it's not very often and I never forget how fortunate I am.

I like snow and cold weather and I am blessed to live where sunny skies and clear, hundred-mile mountain vistas can leave you without words and the night skies in winter are true heavenly bodies.

That is my mantra for this month, anyway, and I'd really be happy if it would just not rain again anytime soon.

Are you ready for some world-class mushing? Hundreds of folks have been preparing all year for the last weekend in January. Jan. 29 marks the 21st running of the Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race.

Officers, volunteers, sponsors and especially the mushers and their dog athletes prepare for Kasilof's race, the Kenai Peninsula's only Iditarod qualifying race.

Kasilof entrants for the T-200 so far are: Tim Osmar, Josh Hudson, William Hanes, Lance Mackey, Ed Pearson, Brennan Norden and, representing Clam Gulch, Dean Osmar.

Kasilof entrants so far for the Tustumena 100 Sled Dog Race, affectionately called the "Little T" are: Jon Little, Jason Mackey, Jason Young, Brenda Cameron and David Brosche.

Many famous names in mushing round out a field of 23 for the T-200 in all. Nine musher currently are signed up for the Little T.

For more information about the race, you can hit the Internet and "Google" T-200.

Belated birthday greetings to Jeff Heames and Lloyd Otto. They celebrated earlier this month.

Celebrating the day they were born this week are Delpha Wilson of Clam Gulch,

Denny Twait, T. Beymer, Andy Knapp, Teri Josephson, Jenni Larsen, Denise Reece, Don Delk, Mackenzie Evenson, Brian Williamson, Ron Bush and Don Bush.

Longtime Kasilof couple celebrating their anniversary are Arnie and T. Beymer. I hope you all have a groovy days.

Come by the Kasilof Public Library this week for new arrivals "Night Fall," by Nelson DeMille, or "Bangkok 8," by John Burdett.

If you need information about library hours, Internet or books, audio and VHS tapes for loan, call 252-1120.

That is the news for this week. If you have news, an event or announcement, call or e-mail.
