Soldotna police are trying to piece together what happened early Saturday morning that left a 29-year-old man unconscious and with serious head injuries in the parking lot of the Maverick Bar.
Michael J. Straughn of Soldotna was found with head and facial trauma at about 4:25 a.m. and was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, where he remained in stable condition Monday, according to Soldotna Police Sgt. Tod McGillivray.
"We've ruled out the cause of the injuries as being accidental or self-inflicted," McGillivray said.
"They were obviously inflicted by someone and something else."
Police are continuing their investigation of the incident and have contacted one person who remembers seeing Straughn at the Riverside House bar at around 3 a.m.
What happened between 3 and 4:25 a.m. remains a mystery and police are asking anyone who saw Straughn or has more information about the incident to contact Soldotna police at 262-4455 or Crime Stoppers at 283-TIPS. Calls to Crime Stoppers may be made anonymously.
"We're real interested in soliciting any information anyone has," said Soldotna Police Chief John Lucking Jr.
