Community efforts make auction a success

Letter to the Editor

Posted: Friday, January 11, 2008

On behalf of the Boys and Girls Club board of directors, our dedicated staff and most importantly the children in the seven community locations served, we want to thank the hundreds of donors, volunteers and attendees for the success of our 20th annual Auction Gala that took place in November. Thank you for your investment in the Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula, one of the peninsula's premier youth development organizations. 2008 marks our 20th year serving the peninsula. Through your continued support we are just getting started.

Our auction was generously supported by Tesoro Alaska, as the primary event sponsor; food sponsor Udelhoven Oilfield Services; advertising sponsor CH2M Hill; Lindsey Clark and ConocoPhillips provided and cooked the main course; and Paradisos, Frosos, Charlottes and Country Foods provided side dishes.

Thanks also to auctioneer Norm Blakeley, table sponsors Arby's, Peak Oilfield Services, BP, ConocoPhillips, First National Bank of Alaska, Big G Electric, Era Aviation, the David Ross Family, UCIDA, George Navarre, Tim Navarre, the city of Kenai, Agrium, Hutchings Chevrolet, the hundreds of live and silent auction item donors and the nearly 200 additional individual ticket purchasers and event attendees.

A special thanks also to David, Laura and Rick Ross, Jim Montgomery, Mike Navarre, Gordon Griffin, Lane Geysler, Stacie Krause, Amy Jackman, Erin Micciche, Brenda Ahlberg and the club staff, Wells Fargo staff, Soldotna Club Kids and Kenai High former Club Kids and the many dedicated volunteers whose setup, tear-down, food serving and banking efforts made the evening possible. I apologize for the many other donors and volunteers for the lack of space available in this letter to list each one of you.

The event was successful specifically because of you and your support. The festivities and friendship experienced at our November auction translated into one of the biggest fundraising events ever for the organization. Over $64,000 will directly offset programming expenses and fortify our long-term relationships with youth that attend our seven clubs.

Thank you all, from the hearts of the youth in the communities served by the Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula, as well as our board of directors.
