Readers pick their choices for comics

Clarion readers have spoken.

We gave you a chance to make some changes in the daily comics page and offered you nine choices. We exposed you to "Bizarro," "The Lockhorns" and "Pardon My Planet" as replacements for "Rubes." And to replace "B.C." and "For Better or For Worse" we showed you "Zits," "Baby Blues," "Mutts," "Between Friends," "Arctic Circle" and "Rhymes With Orange."

Many of you had strong opinions about your choices. Some of you were angry that we were even considering changing the comics at all.

Some of you are upset that "Tumbleweeds" was pulled, but it wasn't an option for us to keep it. The artist retired the strip.

Some of you "love" its replacement, "Mother Goose and Grimm"; some of you "hate it!"

We know we can't please everyone, but we want to clarify, again, that this is your paper. If you liked the new comics we wanted to know. If you didn't like them, we wanted to know that, as well.

Many of you disagreed with what we were told by those providing the comics to us. You said "Rubes" was not boring and you weren't getting tired of it. You also said you'd be disappointed to lose "B.C." But you were, by far, the most vocal about "For Better or For Worse."

And so, without further ado, the readers' top choices are: "For Better or For Worse," "B.C." and "Rubes."

We heard you loud and clear: Don't mess with our comics.

Thank you to all who took the time to send us an e-mail, mail us a note or come by the office to voice your opinion. We hope you know the door is always open, and we hope you'll keep letting us know what you think.
