The East girls basketball defeated Soldotna 55-53 in overtime on Thursday in the first round of the 23rd annual East High Lady T-Bird Classic.
Soldotna falls into the consolation bracket and will play at 4 p.m. today against Ketchikan, which lost to Colony 69-62. In other games at the tournament, Juneau defeated Kodiak 52-27 and Palmer defeated Service 56-43.
The game between Soldotna and East was a rematch of last year's third-place game at the Class 4A state basketball tournament. That game was won by East, 42-34.
Thursday, Shelly Barker paced the Stars with 18 points while Paige Blackburn had 13 points and Karen Senette had 11 points. For East, Jordan Martin had 17 points, Rachel Schoenborn had 16 points and Jazzie Gaddy had 11 points.
