Soldotna's Cory Davis took fourth place in the final of the Pro Open division at Western Nationals in Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah, on Saturday.
Davis, of Christian Brothers Racing, races in the International Series of Champions, Inc., AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series. In the Pro Open division, he also took third in Heat 1 of Rounds 1 and 2. Davis is now fourth in the season points standings with 107 points. Ross Martin of Kansasville, Wisc., is on top of the division.
Davis also raced in the Pro Super Stock division on Saturday. He took eighth and ninth in the heat races and did not qualify for the finals. In that division, Davis is in 13th with 71 points. Tucker Hibbert leads the division with 146 points.
Davis' sister, Carly Davis, also is racing in the series this year in the Pro Women Super Stock division. That division did not race on Saturday. Davis is in second in the division behind Kylie Abrahamson.
The Juneau Douglas hockey team defeated Homer on Saturday 2-1.
After a scoreless first period, Juneau (6-8 overall) received a goal from Eric Verrelli at 13:17 in the second period, then Nick Mow scored four minutes laters. Carson Duggar had the lone goal for Homer.
Luke Eckert made 37 saves for the Mariners, while Matt Noreen had 26 shots for the Crimson Bears.
