FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A grand jury has indicted Nicholas Danico on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of 47-year-old Evelyn Gloria early New Year's Day.

Gloria's partially clothed body was discovered in the bathtub of her neighbor's apartment. The neighbor, Laurea Williams, is the mother of Danico, 20.

According to court documents, Danico had been with Gloria and other neighbors on the evening of Dec. 31 at the apartment of another neighbor, Betty Krier. A witness said Danico had been in possession of a butterfly knife at the time and had been repeatedly flicking it open. Danico and Gloria left Krier's apartment together shortly before midnight.

Gloria's body was found shortly after midnight by Williams and another neighbort.

Fairbanks police later arrested Danico in connection with the death. They have declined to answer questions about where he was found or whether a suspected murder weapon has been located.
