Forum held today

Borough Mayor Dale Bagley will hold an informal pre-budget forum today at 4:30 p.m. in the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly chambers. For more information, call the mayor's office at 262-4441.

Sterling blood drive slated

The Blood Bank of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Center will hold a Sterling community blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today at the Sterling Senior Center.

Participants are urged to drink plenty of caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating.

Hydroponics lecture planned

Central Peninsula Master Gardeners will kick off its winter lecture series with "Hydroponics for the Home Gardener," with Clayton Hillhouse, today at 7 p.m. at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. A $2 donation is requested. Refreshments will be available. For more information, call Janice at 262-5824.

Ice racing season starts Sunday

The Peninsula Ice Racing Association will start its racing season Sunday at noon at Decanter Lake. Races are every Sunday until the ice melts. Racers must be members of the association, but the races are open to the public. There will be free tacos.

Sled dog association will not hold races

The Peninsula Sled Dog Racing Association will not hold club races Sunday at the Soldotna Airport because there is not enough snow to put in trails. Any member interested in running the trails is welcome. The club will be working on getting the trails ready for the Ty Clark Memorial Sled Dog Race to be held Jan. 20 and 21.

The club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bridges to elect new members and draw for the upcoming race.

NPCC to hold general meeting

The North Peninsula Community Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Nikiski Senior Center. The group will hold an election for new officers to serve on the board of directors.

AARP to install new officers

The American Association of Retired Persons local 745 will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kenai Senior Center.

Installation of new officers is on the agenda. Lunch will be served after the meeting.

Residents urged to return permits

The 2000 personal-use and sport fishing shellfish permits are due back to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game by Jan. 31. Permits may be dropped off at the Kenai Fish and Game office or mailed to 333 Raspberry Road, Anchorage, AK 99518.

The permit must be returned whether it was used, or not, for clamming or crabbing.

The 2001 permits are available at Fish and Game offices through the end of January.
