Murkowski in Scotland hunting pheasant

Posted: Sunday, January 12, 2003

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski spent this weekend hunting pheasant in Scotland.

''He is quite the avid bird hunter,'' Murkowski spokesman John Manly said Friday.

Manly said he believed Murkowski flew out to Scotland Thursday night and would be flying in to Anchorage on Sunday. He didn't know where in Scotland Murkowski would be doing the hunting.

Murkowski had been in Washington, D.C. since Jan. 3, attending meetings with Alaska's congressional delegation and government officials and watching his daughter's U.S. Senate swearing-in.

Before leaving Washington, he said he planned to take the weekend to go pheasant hunting, but didn't mention where.

''I have to admit that Edinburgh was on his schedule,'' Manly said.
