Community council to meet

The North Peninsula Community Council will hold its regular meeting 7 p.m. Monday at the Nikiski Senior Center. Discussion will include the Nikiski traffic study. For more information, call 776-3257.

Group to show historical video

Cook Inlet Keeper will present "Technology in Time," a 1974 video about community changes brought to Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay during the early days of oil and gas development this week in Homer. The video will be shown Thursday at 5 p.m. at Alice's Champagne Palace and again Saturday at 3 p.m. at Captain's Coffee Roasting Company. For more information, call (907) 235-4068.

Trappers group set to meet Wednesday

The Kenai Peninsula Trappers Association will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverside House in Soldotna. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call 262-2816 for more information.

Seniors invited to AARP meeting

Rivers coalition plans Thursday meeting

Community Rivers Planning Coalition will have a general business meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chapman School Library. Key points of discussion will be following up on the flood assessment forum, including possible resolutions on Federal Emergency Management Agency flood plain mapping, and a Kenai River Center presence on the lower Kenai Peninsula.

Incorporation workshop planned

The Small Business Development Center will hold a workshop entitled "Frequently Asked Questions About Incorporating," Jan. 22 from 1 until 3 p.m. at the center, located at suite 16 in the Red Diamond Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. Cost is $15. For more information, call the center at 262-7497.

Rec center plans youth ski trip, other events

The Kenai Recreation Center is planning several events for area youth this month. On Jan. 19, the Kenai Teen Center will sponsor a ski trip to Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood. Cost is $33 for transportation and lift ticket. On Jan. 25, the center will hold a karaoke contest. On Jan. 31, the center will hold a middle school dance from 7 until 10 p.m.

Ski team to sell prom dresses

A community prom dress, formal wear and accessories sale will be held Jan. 25 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Mall. Items for sale should be dropped off Jan. 24 at the mall, to be sold at a 30/70 percent consignment. Proceeds will go to the Soldotna High School ski team. Homer Winter Carnival festivities planned

The Homer Winter Carnival will be held Feb. 14, 15 and 16. This year's theme is "Freedom." Local businesses and individuals wishing to be included in the festivities must contact the chamber by Feb. 3.

The winter carnival parade will be held Feb. 15. Parade entry forms are available at the Homer Chamber of Commerce. There is no deadline to sign up for the parade. For more information, call the chamber at (907) 235-8766.

Middle school holds drift boat raffle

Kenai Middle School is selling raffle tickets for a drawing to be held Jan. 31 for a 15' drift boat built by KMS students. Cost is $25 per ticket. For more information, call the school at 283-4896.

Watershed Forum seeks photographs

The Kenai Watershed Forum is soliciting entries for "The Many Landscapes of the Kenai Watershed -- Micro to Macro," a juried art exhibit and contest.
