SoHi, Seward move to finals

Nikiski, Homer post victories in consolation bracket

Soldotna and Seward posted victories Friday in the semifinals of the 2003 Peninsula Challenge at Skyview High School.

The Stars punched their ticket to the title tilt with a 35-26 victory over Kenai. Soldotna took an 11-5 advantage after one period and gradually built on it the rest of the way.

Jennifer Senette paced Soldotna with 10 points, while Denali Tufto had seven points for Kenai.

Seward advanced to the championship game by edging Palmer 37-32. Ann Linville had the big game for the Seahawks, pouring in 19 points. Emily Bolling countered with 14 points for the Moose.

In the consolation semis, Nikiski and Homer rumbled to victories.

The Bulldogs received 20 points from Hisa Miyara and 19 points from Karen Rabung in a 61-50 victory over North Pole. Nikiski came back from a 13-6 deficit in the first period despite a balanced scoring attack from North Pole, which got 18 points from Stephanie Dahlke, 15 points from Sharde' Burkhead and 12 points from Kelsy McIntosh.

The Mariners played a tremendous second half in a 45-26 victory over Skyview. Homer had a 20-17 lead at the half, but then outscored the Panthers 25-9 the rest of the way. Channing Setterquist led all scorers with 16 points.
