The Scott Gomez Oscar Meyer Scholarship Program made a $3,845 donation to the Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Sunday at the Soldotna Sports Center.
The program was founded last year in an effort to provide funding to Alaska youth hockey programs, and last week awarded a total of $50,000 to programs around the state. Funds were raised through the sale of Kraft Foods products at Fred Meyer stores during the month of August.
A Kraft spokesperson said in a press release issued Sunday that the company is happy to have been able to make the contribution to Alaska's hockey programs.
"Clearly, it's Alaska's youth who'll benefit the most from the donations," said Gary Hansen of Kraft Foods Alaska.
Gomez, who grew up in Anchorage, is a currently forward with the NHL's New Jersey Devils.
