KPHA Midget team wins tournament
The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association Midget Tier II squad had an exciting holiday break, taking first place at the Anchorage North Stars Holiday Tournament, which took place from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1.
The squad, made up of players under the age of 16 from the central Kenai Peninsula, notched a 4-0 record in the tournament. The team opened the tournament with a 4-2 win over the Boys and Girls Club Bulldogs, then followed that up with a 14-3 win over the Big Lake Winter Hawks. The KPHA squad beat the Anchorage Hockey Association North Stars 5-2, and in the championship game, a rematch with the Bulldogs, prevailed 10-3.
In all, the KPHA team scored 33 goals while giving up just 10 over the four games. Coaches Kyle Howell and Aaron Swanson were pleased with how well the team skated together during the tournament.
