Candle-making for Valentine's Day

Learn the art and science behind candlemaking at workshop on Feb. 5 at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska. This four-hour workshop will teach students 12 and older how to make three different types of candles, from start to finish. All materials are provided. Attendees will take home several finished products as well as a comprehensive information packet. Pre-registration is required as there is limited space. The cost is $75. Totem Tracers Genealogical meets

Kenai Totem Tracers Genealogical Society meets today at 6 p.m. at United Methodist Church of the New Covent in Kenai. Tom Shugak will discuss his life experiences, from growing up in Old Harbor to his retirement in Kenai, including the search for his mother. Week-long aviation camp in March

The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska is hosting a spring-break aviation camp, Challengers ACE Academy, for students in grades 8-11. The camp will have an orientation flight for all attendees, and include hands-on experience with Medallion flight simulator, wing design, forces of flight, weather and other aviation topics. CLCA is an approved vendor for Connections and IDEA. This camp will also satisfy many of the requirements for aviation related badges for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. ACE runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and costs $275. Participants should bring their own lunch each day. The Challenger center is located at 9711 Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai. Teen night on tap

Teen Night is Jan. 21 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. There will be open gym, basketball, teen center, movies, popcorn and more. Teen 13-18 are welcome. For more information call 776-8800.

Swim lesson openings in Nikiski

Nikiski Pool has space available in semi-private lessons starting Feb. 1, a competitive swim class starting March 22 and an American Red Cross Lifeguard Class starting Feb. 22. For more information call 776-8800.

Cribbage tournament now on

The 17th annual Kenai Peninsula cribbage tournament runs on Saturdays at 3 p.m. until April 30 at the American Legion in Kenai, which is at 902 Cook Street. Members of the public are welcome to participate. For more information call Raymond at 776-5688 or Bob at 776-5339.
