Lindros, Rangers receive true Philly welcome
PHILADELPHIA -- Eric Lindros got a raucous reception from his former fans Saturday, while the rest of his New York Rangers teammates took a beating from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Kim Johnsson skated in through the circles and flipped the puck over Mike Richter's shoulder at 5:51 of the third period for the go-ahead goal, giving the Flyers a fight-filled 4-2 win over the Rangers.
Johnsson, one of the players the Flyers got in the trade for Lindros, made it 3-2 and Justin Williams padded the lead with 4:23 left.
New York has lost six straight, one in overtime, while the Flyers have won 10 of their last 12.
Spending nearly two years away didn't earn Lindros a reprieve with the 19,867 fans in Philly, who raised their voices -- mostly with boos -- every time he touched the puck. He was razzed even in warmups, which were interrupted by a heated exchange.
Blues 4, Penguins 1
PITTSBURGH -- Mario Lemieux played for the first time in nearly two months, but Scott Mellanby had two goals as St. Louis beat the Penguins.
Cory Stillman and Keith Tkachuk scored less than two minutes apart in the third period as the Blues weathered an early Pittsburgh flurry.
Lemieux went scoreless in his first game since Nov. 14 following a season-long problem with hip pain, but couldn't help the slumping Penguins sustain a dominating first period in which they led 1-0 and easily could have taken a big lead.
Red Wings 5, Stars 2
DETROIT -- Brendan Shanahan got the 1,000th point of his NHL career, scoring two goals as the Red Wings won their fifth straight game.
Shanahan scored the game's first two goals and added an assist for Detroit, which outshot Dallas 35-18.
Kings 3, Sharks 2
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Jaroslav Modry had a goal and an assist, and Los Angeles used its expertise on the power play to hold off the Sharks.
Felix Potvin stopped 39 shots for his 14th career victory over the Sharks as the Kings got power-play goals from Modry and Craig Johnson and another goal from Ziggy Palffy.
Sabres 2, Devils 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Martin Biron made 27 saves and Miroslav Satan and Chris Gratton scored to lead the Sabres.
Gratton snapped a 1-all tie with 40 seconds left in the second period, scoring on a slap shot from the right boards that sailed over the left shoulder of Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur. The shot was the Sabres' first of the period.
Gratton's goal came 1:13 after Bruce Gardiner scored his first goal as a Devil.
Islanders 5, Bruins 4
BOSTON -- Mariusz Czerkawski scored two goals and added an assist and Alexei Yashin had four assists for the Islanders.
Dave Scatchard, Mats Lindgren and Oleg Kvasha also scored for the Islanders, who built a 4-1 first-period lead and survived for just their fourth win in 10 games.
Maple Leafs 1, Canadiens 1
TORONTO -- Mats Sundin scored midway through the second period, rallying the Maple Leafs to a 1-1 tie.
Marcel Hossa scored and Jose Theodore made 38 saves for the Canadiens, who haven't won consecutive games since winning five straight in mid-November.
Blue Jackets 5, Blackhawks 4
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Mike Sillinger scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Blue Jackets.
Senators 2, Lightning 1
TAMPA, Fla. -- Ottawa goaltender Jani Hurme stopped Martin St. Louis on a penalty shot with 5.3 seconds left to preserve a victory for the Senators.
The penalty shot was awarded after Hurme knocked the net off its moorings.
Capitals 1, Panthers 0
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Jeff Halpern scored a first-period goal and Ollie Kolzig made 25 saves for his second shutout of the season.
The Panthers lost their third straight.
Halpern scored his fifth goal of the season at 2:18 of the first period. Alone in front of the net, he swatted in a short pass from Chris Simon, who stripped the puck away from defenseman Robert Svehla just to the left of goaltender Roberto Luongo.
Predators 2, Mighty Ducks 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Petr Tenkrat snapped a tie with a second-period goal against his former team, leading the Predators over the Mighty Ducks.
Tenkrat, acquired on Nov. 1 from Anaheim for Patric Kjellberg, scored on a slap shot from the top of the right circle into an open net, catching Anaheim goaltender Steve Shields out of position in front of the net at the 15:49 mark.
Canucks 7, Hurricanes 1
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Trevor Letowski had a goal and two assists and seven Vancouver players scored in a victory over Carolina.
Vancouver scored one short-handed goal and three power-play goals in winning for the fifth time in eight games.
Daniel Sedin, Markus Naslund and Ed Jovanovski scored power-play goals for the Canucks.
Mattias Ohlund added a short-handed goal, and Bryan Helmer and Scott Lachance also scored for the Canucks.
Defenseman Marek Malik scored for Carolina. Arturs Irbe gave up seven goals on 28 shots for the Hurricanes.
Oilers 2, Avalanche 2
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Patrick Roy made 32 saves and Colorado rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie Edmonton.
Edmonton maintained its one-point lead over second-place Colorado in the Northwest Division.
Milan Hejduk capitalized on some sloppy defensive play by Edmonton and tied the game just 39 seconds into the third period.
Ville Nieminen also scored for the Avalanche, who improved to 2-1-2 in their last five games.
Mike Comrie and Georges Laraque scored for the Oilers.
