Soldotna student earns scholarship

Abigail Verhelst of Soldotna has been awarded the president's scholarship at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. The scholarship is a competitive award given to incoming out-of-state freshmen and is based on leadership, extracurricular activities, volunteer experience, grades and test scores.

Verhelst is the daughter of Mary Beth and Tim Verhelst of Soldotna and a graduate of Soldotna High School. She is studying fashion merchandising at Kent State.

Skyview grad named to dean's list

Sidney Cox of Clam Gulch has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., where he is a freshman studying engineering. He earned a 3.75 grade point average.

Cox is a 2002 graduate of Skyview High School and the son of Sid and Denise Cox of Clam Gulch.

Kenai grad inducted in honor society

Stacey Pault of Kenai has been selected to join the Golden Key International Honor Society, the world's largest collegiate honor society. Membership is open only to juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class at participating colleges worldwide.

Pault is the daughter of Joe and Katie Pault of Kenai and a 2000 Kenai Central High School graduate. She is a junior at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., where she is majoring in biomedical science.
