Ten Star hoops camp taking applications

The Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp is now accepting applications for evaluation. Boys and girls 10-19 years old are eligible to apply to the invitation-only camp.

Past camp participants include several current NBA players. Participants come from all 50 states as well as a variety of foreign countries. Camps are conducted at locations around the U.S. For a free brochure, call (704) 373-0873.

Winter Games basketball tourney scheduled

A Peninsula Winter Games adult basketball tournament has been scheduled for Jan. 21-22 and 28-29 at the Kenai Recreation Center.

Games will be played from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 and 28, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Jan. 22 and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Teams will be limited to seven players. The tournament is open to the first four men's teams and first four women's teams to register. Games will consist of 20-minute halves with a running clock. Registration is $10 per player in advance of the competition.

KPHA PeeWee B goes 1-3-1 in weekend set

The Kenai Peninsula Hockey Association PeeWee B squad picked up a win and a tie to go with three losses last weekend.

The Icehawks went 0-2-1 against the Fairbanks Grizzlies. In a 4-3 loss, the Icehawks got two goals from Zack Waters, a goal from Eric Johnson and an assist by Brady Perkins. Goalie Keegan Remsen made eight saves.

In a 3-3 tie with the Grizzlies, Brad Duwe, Zack Sonnichsen and Brady Perkins tallied while Tyler Johnson, Drew Alkire, Matt Silver picked up assists. Goalie William Granger made three saves.

In a 3-2 loss to the Grizzlies, Tyler Jensen and Sonnichsen picked up goals while Jenna Redford, Eric Johnson and Duwe notched assists. Remsen made nine saves.

The Icehawks were 1-1 against the Mat-Su Eagles. In a 2-1 loss, Granger made 19 saves while Sonnichsen tallied, assisted by Duwe and Redford.

In a 4-2 win, Duwe, Jensen, Eric Johnson and Perkins scored with assists from Morgan Cunningham, Eric Johnson, Duwe, Redford, Brandon Fisher and Waters. Remsen was credited with 16 saves.

Short-course swim meet slated for Feb. 18-19

Alaska Masters Swimming is hosting a short-course (25 yards) swim meet Feb. 18-19 at Bartlett High School Swimming Pool in Anchorage. Entries for this United States Masters Swimming-sanctioned event are due by Feb. 10. Full details, along with information about adult swim clubs in Alaska, are available at
