Mrs. Shadel was born Feb. 23, 1922, to Don and Amy Miller in Kootenai, Idaho. She was one of nine children. She grew up in Kootenai, graduating from Sandpoint High School. After graduation she attended nursing school until she met her first husband, Norris Schwin, and had a family of four girls. She moved to Alaska with Norris and girls in December 1964. The couple worked for Tesoro Petroleum on the Kenai Peninsula until the time of Norris' death in 1974. After he died, Patricia left Alaska to work for the Evangelical Mission Ministries in Pharr, Texas.
"She and her current husband Leigh Shadel had dated in high school in Sandpoint. Their friendship was renewed in July of 1977 when Patricia returned to Sandpoint for a family reunion. They married November 1977 in Pharr, Texas. This brought their family to six girls. Patricia and Leigh lived Colburn, Idaho until they moved to Hayden in 1993," her family said. "Patricia loved gardening, sewing, reading and fellowship with friends and neighbors. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved the Lord and spent her time telling others of His love and living for him. Her prayer was that each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would come to know the Lord. She attended Coeur d'Alene Bible Church and was active in her church and community. She will be missed as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
