Swim team to hold tryouts

Small business seminar scheduled

The Small Business Development Center and the Procurement Technical Assistance Center will hold a seminar entitled "How to Successfully Sell the State of Alaska" today from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the SBDC office in the Red Diamond Center, Suite 16. State of Alaska purchasing procedures and online procurement opportunities will be discussed. The seminar is free. For more information, call the SBDC at 262-7497.

Meeting to be held for care givers

There will be an informational meeting providing assistance, training and educational opportunities for care givers today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center at 197 W. Park Ave. in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-2322.

Fish and Game committee to meet

The Cooper Landing Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. today and Thursday in the Cooper Landing Ambulance Hall to comment and vote on upper Cook Inlet fisheries proposals for the February Board of Fisheries meeting. The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road at 7 p.m. An election will be held to fill one vacancy. Afterward, the committee will discuss the Board of Fisheries' proposals. For more information, call 262-4763.

Community meeting planned in Kasilof

The Kenai Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development District Inc. will hold a community meeting in Kasilof from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Tustumena Elementary School in the multipurpose room.

Topics of discussion will include the possible formation of a Kasilof community council, development of a long-range community plan, grant funding opportunities and possible community related projects. For more information, call 262-4551.

Blood donations needed

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold a blood drive Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Drink caffeine-free liquids the night before and eat a good meal just before donating. For more information, call 260-5672.

Hospital Service Area Board to meet

The Central Kenai Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board will hold its monthly meeting Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Iliamna room at the hospital. For more information, call 262-9892.

Snaring seminar offered

There will be a snaring seminar offered at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge headquarters Jan. 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. Local trappers will demonstrate trapping methods.

This seminar is required for trappers to check their snares every seven days on the refuge, but it is not the trapper orientation class needed to obtain a permit to trap in the refuge. Participants are advised to dress for outside weather. For more information, call 262-7021.

Nominations sought for annual banquet

The Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its 43rd annual Awards Banquet Feb. 1. To nominate an outstanding business, individual, or high school youth, contact Kim for a nominating form.

Tickets available for auction, wine tasting

Hospice of the Central Peninsula has tickets available for its annual auction and wine tasting scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. Six wines will be served with complimentary appetizers. Tickets are $75 per couple or $37.50 per person and are available by contacting hospice at 262-0453.

Homer Winter Carnival slated for February

Parade entry forms are available for the Homer Winter Carnival Parade Feb. 9. The carnival is planned for Feb. 8, 9 and 10. Businesses or organizations are invited to contact the Homer Chamber of Commerce at 235-8766 or 235-7740 if they would like to list an event or activity for the carnival calendar; the deadline is Jan. 28.

Hospital now accredited for mammography
