The students of Grace Lutheran enjoyed preparing a Christmas luncheon as a gift of service to their parents. Families, together with the Grace Lutheran preschoolers, gathered at noon on the last day of school before vacation to enjoy a student-prepared sloppy joe lunch. The afternoon featured classroom gift exchanges, carol singing and Christmas bingo. Students also participated with recitations and songs in the Christmas Eve candlelight service.
Congratulations to first-grader Kyla Moore and second-grader Cody Burow for passing their addition facts test (100 facts in five minutes). Additionally, third-grader Scott Habermann passed his addition facts. The lower-grade room welcomes new kindergartner Chris Hagel. He already is working on his fourth phonogram.
The fifth- and sixth-graders are enjoying a reading unit featuring the Civil War. Words such as abolitionist, emancipation and confederates are becoming quite familiar.
Upper-grade students continue to enjoy the great outdoors during physical education, as they learn the skills and strategies of broom hockey. Both classrooms are making good use of the dark winter days to study space and the stars.
A thank you goes to Lori Chase for coming into the lower-grade classroom and sharing her experiences as a entrepreneur as a culminating activity for a reading unit on business.
