Borough to hold spruce bark beetle discussions

The Kenai Peninsula Borough will hold public meetings to discuss spruce bark beetle programs. Today at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at the Nikolaevsk Elementary School library regarding the Orehova, North Fork and Tomski right-of-way projects and at the McNeil Canyon Elementary School library regarding the Birch and Trapper's right-of-way projects. Monthly AMVETS, auxiliary meeting planned

AMVETS Post No. 4 and its auxiliary will hold their monthly meeting in the Red Diamond Center at 7:30 p.m. today. All members are urged to attend. For more information, call Glenn D. Schrader at 283-4359 or the post at 262-3540.

Social Security rep to visit peninsula

A Social Security administration representative for Alaska will visit the Kenai Peninsula Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in city council chambers in Seward, Jan. 16 from noon to 4 p.m. at city hall in Kenai, and Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the senior citizens center in Homer. The administration also will be on the peninsula Feb. 12, 13 and 14 and March 12, 13, 14 at the same locations and times for each city.

Commercial fishing future to be discussed

Robert Thorstenson Jr. of United Fishermen of Alaska will be at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture building Monday at 7 p.m. for a meeting to discuss the future of fishing in Alaska and the United Fishermen of Alaska's role. For more information, call UFA at (907) 586-2820 or CIA at 283-5761.

Tickets available for auction, wine tasting

Hospice of the Central Peninsula has tickets available for its annual auction and wine tasting scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. Six wines will be served with complimentary appetizers. Tickets are $75 per couple or $37.50 per person and available by contacting hospice at 262-0453.

Homer Winter Carnival scheduled for February

Parade entry forms are available for the Homer Winter Carnival Parade Feb. 9. The carnival is planned for Feb. 8, 9 and 10. Businesses or organizations may contact the Homer Chamber of Commerce at 235-8766 or 235-7740 if they would like to list an event or activity for the carnival calendar; the deadline is Jan. 28.

Hospital now accredited for mammography

The Central Peninsula General Hospital Kenai Health Center has received accreditation from the American College of Radiology's committee on mammography. For more information, call 283-4495.
