Fish stocking plan open for comment

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Sport Fish's fish stocking plan is in its draft format and ready for public comment. The division plans to release more than 7 million fish over the next five years. The plan is posted at

Safety day meeting planned

There will be an organizational meeting for Safety Day activities at 5:30 p.m. today at the Soldotna State Farm office. All parties interested in participating in the annual event are encouraged to attend. For more information, call Nancy Mitchell at 262-4440.

Soldotna chamber mixer today

The city of Soldotna and the Greater Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will hold a chamber mixer at 6:30 p.m. today at the Soldotna Sports Center. There is no fee. Hors d'euvres will be by Custom Seafood Processors, refreshments by Coca-Cola of Kenai and desserts by Sal's Klondike Diner.

CIAA to discuss salmon enhancement

The Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association will hold a board of directors meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at 40610 K-Beach Road. The topic of discussion will be the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision regarding the salmon enhancement program at Tustumena Lake. The meeting is open to the public.

Family day at Challenger Center set

The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska will celebrate the recent landing on Mars by holding a "Voyage to Mars" at 9 a.m. Saturday at the center. Fifth-grade students through adults can fly the mission while kindergarten through fourth-grade students will participate on hands-on Mars activities. Cost for the mission is $25; cost for the activities is $10.

All-you-can-eat breakfast planned

The Anchor Point Senior Center will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the center. Cost is $5.

Public health to observe Martin Luther King Day

The Kenai Public Health Center will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day. There will be no immunization clinic. For more information, call 335-3400.

SCS to sponsor financial class

The Soldotna Community Schools will sponsor a nine-hour educational financial class from 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. Jan. 22, 29 and Feb. 2 or from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 24, 31 and Feb. 4. at the Soldotna Middle School. Educational Seminars of Alaska will present.

The class will help participants better understand investments, plan for a child's college or retirement, and understand the market. Cost is $50. For more information or to register, call 262-6768.

Food handlers class planned

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation will sponsor a food handlers class from 2 to 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. There is no fee for this class.
