Quilters sew for children

The Stitches of Love Quilters are making quilts for foster children and plans to present them to Children's Services. When a child is brought into the foster care program, they choose a quilt to keep.

There will be a group sew from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Redoubt Elementary School in Soldotna. For more information on the group or project, call Jane Schultz at 283-4570.

In addition, there will be a foster care orientation from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Office of Social Services, 145 Main Street Loop in Kenai. For more information, call Allison Gottesman at 283-0318.

Public health plans one-day closure

The Kenai Public Health Center will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day. It will open at 8 a.m. Jan. 18. For more information or to make an appointment, call 335-3400.

4-H rally day planned

4-H will hold its annual Rally Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the Kenai Christian Church. Participants are asked to bring a lunch. Topics will include insects, dogs, crafts, cooking, rabbits, bones, manners at meetings, public presentations and judging. It is open to the public. Autism workshop scheduled

Frontier Community Services will hold an autism workshop from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Building in the assembly chambers. Chris Crawford of the Special Education Service Agency will instruct.

Participants will receive increased understanding of autism spectrum disorders, including definitions, characteristics, early warning signs, causes and myths. For more information and a complete list of activities, call Jan Gauthier or Renie Aragon at 262-6331. Registration deadline is Wednesday.

T-200 seeking youth riders

The Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race is seeking children ages 5 to 14 to ride in the sleds of mushers. An emphasis on challenged, disadvantaged or disabled children is placed on the selection process. Healing Touch classes available

Level I and II Healing Touch classes will be held Jan. 28-31 at Central Peninsula General Hospital. The classes are 20 continuing education hours for nurses and massage therapists. The cost is $275. For more information, call Susan Shoemaker at 714-4776.

Wine event offers appetizing evening

The Winter Wine Event will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Six gourmet appetizer courses will be complimented by wines throughout the evening. This social evening and auction is a fund-raiser for Hospice of the Central Peninsula. To purchase tickets, call 262-0453 or stop by the hospice office behind U-Haul in Soldotna. The event generally sells out early.

Writers club to host dinner

The eighth annual Writers Night and dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center.
