Cancer fundraiser meeting set

Central Peninsula Relay for Life will begin planning for Relay 2006 at 5:30 p.m. today at Central Peninsula General Hospital in the Spur Room. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. For more information, call Lisa or Steve at 262-6656.

New club set to stitch

An embroidery club will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays at Kenai Grace Brethren Church on the corner of the Kenai Spur Highway and McCollum. For more information, call Linda Machado at 776-8233.

Parenting classes scheduled

Kenaitze Head Start will begin a daytime series, Raising a Thinking Child, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Family House. Parents will learn how to teach their children problem-solving techniques. Classes, which are open to the public, will meet every Wednesday for four to six weeks. No child care will be available. Children’s carnival slated for fun

A children’s winter crnival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai. There will be games and prizes for children ages three to 12.

Carnival activities will include a Scholastic Book Fair from noon to 6 p.m., food and beverages from noon to 7:30 p.m., live music from 4 to 6 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m., and dancing for ages 13 and up with a $5 admission fee and door prizes.

Admission is free until 6 p.m. however, each game or activity has a small fee. There also will be a silent auction and a Chinese auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Proceeds benefit the Hands Around the Peninsula, a newly established nonprofit organization that offers financial assistance to area families in need.

T-200 hosts volunteer orientation

The Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race committee will hold a volunteer orientation at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Tustumena Lodge, Mile 111 on the Sterling Highway in Kasilof. The race will be held Jan. 27 through 30. Indoor and outdoor volunteer opportunities are available and previous experience is not necessary. For more details visit

Wine tasting, auction slated

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will host its annual Winter Wine Event and Auction from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. For more information or tickets, call 262-0453.
