Sean Keating

Keating graduates police academy

Former Sterling resident Sean Keating graduated from the Anchorage Police Department’s 26-week police academy program.

He went to work for the department in December.

He is the son of John and Margo Keating and a 1997 graduate of Skyview High School.

 

Katie Raye Barker

Barker joins Air Force

Former Sterling resident Air Force Airman Katie Raye Barker graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, she studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical, rifle marksmanship, field exercises, and human relations training. In addition, Barker earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

She is the daughter of Michael G. and Patrica J. Barker and a 2005 graduate of Skyview High School.

Fowler rides tall

Soldotna student Jake Fowler was recently appointed to the Wrangler High School All-star Rodeo Team. Fowler was selected based on his leadership skills, academic eligibility and athletic achievements.

 

Joel P. Grimes

Grimes joins Air Force

Former Seward resident Air Force Airman Joel P. Grimes graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical, rifle marksmanship, field exercises, and human relations training.

In addition, Grimes earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of John Grimes and a 2005 graduate of Seward High School.

Rahlfs elected officer

Former Soldotna resident Aaron Rahlfs was elected historian of the Speech and Debate Club at South Dakota State University.

Rahlfs was last year’s English Club president and is a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity.

He is the son of Terry and Sherrie Rahlfs and a 2001 graduate of Kenai Central High School.

Rahlfs is a senior communications, speech and theater major at college.

Area students awarded scholarships

The following Kenai students received scholarships from the University of Alaska Foundation and the UAF Advancement Services for the 2005-06 school year.

· Amy Rask The Floris Licht Rhode Scholarship and the Usibelli Honors Scholarship;

· Casey Adamson — Fred A. Kubon and Inez M. Kubon Scholarship;

· Larissa Cochran — Pearl Berry Boyd Music Scholarship;

· Benjamin Kellie — Jessie O’Bryan McIntosh Scholarship Fund; and

· Shelah Moreno-Jones — Pearl Berry Boyd Music Scholarship.
