Ninilchik boys, girls leave Nikolaevsk with victories

The Skyview girls opened the Northern Lights Conference season in style.

Candace Penrod scored a game-high 18 points, Jessica Stewart added eight and Brittany Meyer chipped in seven as the Panthers beat visiting Homer, 43-33, on Tuesday night.

Both teams entered halftime of the conference opener knotted at 19 before the Panthers (3-3, 1-0 NLC) limited the Mariners to just seven points in each of the final two quarters.

Reba Temple led Homer with 13 points while Lindsay Layland scored 10.

Brooke Forsi scored 23 points in leading the visiting Eagles past the Seahawks on Tuesday.

Amie Smithwick added 13 points and Chelsea Hardcastle chipped in 10 for CIA.

Seward was led by Aubrey Stone and Michelle Buchanan, who collected 10 points apiece.

Heidi Skjold scored a game-high 21 points as the Wolverines left Nikolaevsk with a victory on Tuesday night.

Ashley Bartolowits netted 15 points and Lindsey Rohr added 10 as Ninilchik owned a 27-10 edge at halftime and never looked back.

Efrosia Yakunin led Nikolaevsk with 12 points.

Panthers edge MarinersAustin Vanderford poured in a game-high 24 points and Tyler Sutherland scored 16 in guiding the Wolverines past the Warriors on Tuesday.

Leading by only six at the break, Ninilchik outscored the Warriors 22-11 in the third quarter en route to victory.

Nikolaevsk's Jonah Yakunin and Mark Fefelov scored 24 and 11 points, respectively.
