After squandering a lead in a 4-3 loss at Palmer on Saturday, Soldotna made sure that wasn't about to happen again.
And this time, it never even came close.
Owning a 3-0 cushion after the first period against visiting Homer on Tuesday, the Stars erupted for eight second-period goals and added another in the third in handling the Mariners, 12-1, at the Soldotna Sports Center.
Daniel Markstrom recorded a hat trick, Matt Silver and Anton Olson added two goals apiece and Ben Christianson, Branden Fisher, Zack Waters, Clayton Glick and Brad Duwe all found the back of the net once as Soldotna improved to 7-2 in the North Star Conference with one league game remaining.
Olson got things rolling just 1:01 into the contest when he put the puck past Homer goalie Luke Eckert, who denied 26 of the 38 shots that came his way.
Markstrom and Christianson made it 3-0 by the end of the first, Christianson's tally coming on a five-on-three.
The onslaught ensued in the second as Markstrom scored just 23 seconds into the frame. Silver, Fisher, Waters, Glick, Olson and Duwe all scored before Markstrom netted his third of the night with 1:45 to play in the period.
Homer's lone goal came in the third off the stick of Addison Miller when he slipped the puck by Soldotna goalie Stephen Kendrick, who turned away 9-of-10 shots.
Glick and Duwe each added four assists while Harvey, Christianson, Waters and Sean Endsley had two apiece.
