Hakkinen wrote on his website on Saturday -- jayhakkinen.com -- that as he understands it, he has qualified for the World Cup circuit in February.
"If that is correct about the US World Cup, I can feel very good about coming back from such a strong sickness right before the season," he wrote. "I really appreciate the people who supported me through it and did not give up hope on me."
Hakkinen wrote that qualifying for the World Cups again is a huge step in getting ready for the March World Championships.
