Team Alaska recruiting wrestlers
Team Alaska is looking to fill spots for five female wrestlers and seven male wrestlers for the Arctic Winter Games in Iqaluit on Baffin Island in Canada.
Eligible athletes must have been born between 1984 and 1986. The female weight classes are: 52 kilograms (114.4 pounds); 56 kilograms (123.2 pounds); 60 kilograms (132 pounds); 65 kilograms (143 pounds); and 71 kilograms (156.2 pounds).
The seven weight classes for boys are: 52 kilograms (114.4 pounds); 57 kilograms (125.4 pounds); 62 kilograms (136.4 pounds); 68 kilograms (149.6 pounds); 75 kilograms (165 pounds); 82 kilograms (180.4 pounds); and 90 kilograms (198 pounds).
Athletes interested in becoming a member of Team Alaska Wrestling should contact coach Chris Perk at Homer High School by phone at 235-8186, fax a resume of wrestling accomplishments to 235-4628 or e-mail Perk at firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for applications is Monday.
Team Alaska will depart for the Arctic Winter Games March 16 and return March 23. The registration fee of $700 includes a uniform, parka, travel costs, room and board.
North Road Wrestling sign-ups scheduled
The North Road Wrestling Club, open to boys and girls of all ages, will have sign-up sessions next week.
Sign-up sessions are from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Nikiski Elementary Monday and Tuesday, at North Star Elementary Wednesday and Thursday and at the Nikiski Middle-Senior High Friday.
The first practice is slated for Feb. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at North Star Elementary, and registration can be done at any practice session.
Registration packets are available at each school and at the Nikiski pool.
