Rights are what give us freedom

I have been studying American History in school. The Constitution of the United States was given to us with many rights as well as important responsibilities. I would like to share these with you broken down into my level of understanding.

We have the right to freedom of worship. Our responsibility is to honor God with not only our worship but with our lives. In some countries people are not allowed to go to church or have a Bible. We sometimes forget what this freedom means to us.

We have the right to freedom of speech. Our responsibility is to speak honestly and purely. We need to respect the opinion of others.

We have the right to freedom of press. Our responsibility is to keep informed and analyze what we read. We also should not print things that could harm another person. Because of this right I am able to publish this letter.

We have the right to keep and bear arms. Our responsibility to use firearms properly and safely, without endangering lives of law-biding citizens. Being an Alaskan and having hunting as a part of my upbringing, I am thankful I have the right to own a firearm.

We have the right to vote. Our responsibility is to not only to vote, but vote wisely and faithfully for what is best for this country. When I am 18 years old, I will use my responsibility wisely and register to vote so that my vote can count. We do not realize this awesome right we have as Americans.

We have the right and freedom to earn a living in one's chosen vocation. Our responsibility is to take advantage of educational opportunities as well as develop good work habits and be responsible employees.

We have the right of freedom of assembly. Our responsibility is to meet with others and share ideas. We need to recognize un-American and anti-Christian activities and emotions and avoid them. Thank you.
