Dian L. Schmitt of Kent, Wash., died of lung cancer Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at her home surrounded by her children. She was 67.

A memorial service for friends and family will take place in Anchorage next summer.

Mrs. Schmitt was born July 21, 1937, the daughter of Bert and Ermadean (Knox) Breshear in Kansas City, Mo. She spent most of her youth in Orange County, Calif., and her adult years in Anchorage and Kent.

She was known for her love of paperwork and her meticulous detail in bookkeeping and the "Today" notes she kept for more than 25 years. She enjoyed yard work, cooking, entertaining, dancing, bowling, golfing, home decorating and remodeling. She will be best remembered for her love of family and friends and her colorful and ever-present sense of humor.

Mrs. Schmitt was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Adolph L. "Duff" Schmitt.

She is survived by former husbands, Jim Anderson and Jim Schmitt and longtime companion, Gar Henderson; daughters, Reean and husband, Dan, Pitts of Soldotna, Kim Schmitt of Anchorage and twins Monica and Melinda Schmitt of Kent; son, Shawn and wife, Tracy, Schmitt of Port Townsend, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Ashley Cameron, Nicole (Cameron) Witt, Jenna and Tracy Pitts, Joshua Schmitt, Coral Suttle-Schmitt, Amanda Perry and Brittany and Cody MacDonald; great-granddaughter Sarah Witt and "Witt" twin girls due in March; sister and brother-in-law, Burnadean and Henry Dodd of Anchorage; niece, Denise (Deny) and Rich Sorensen; nephew, Dennis (Chip) and Ronda Dodd; best friend, Betty Scholes; adopted daughter, Shannon Palmer; and a number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
