Soldotna Elks table tennis results

Wayne Brooks and Joe Szczesny won the Soldotna Elks Lodge's doubles table tennis tournament Wednesday. Chad Botirius and Brannon Ames placed second and Ray DeBardelaben and Steve Anderson placed third.

The Soldotna Elks holds table tennis tournaments every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Ray at 262-7415.

SeaLife Center hosts new events

The Alaska SeaLife Center will host a series of new events at its center in Seward. For more information, call (800) 224-2525 or (907) 224-6300 or visit

Octopus Encounter — Saturdays at 2 p.m. Participants will get a personal experience with the cephalopods of Alaska's waters. This program will educate visitors on the anatomy and behavior of cephalopods. It includes a behind-the-scenes tour to meet the resident octopus. Guests will discover how it feels to have octopus suckers grab onto their hands during the 45 minute private program. Limit 4 people. Advance booking is required.

Sex and the Sea — Saturdays at 2 p.m. This guided tour will educate guests on how the resident marine life heats up cold Alaska waters. Discover the mating and reproductive habits of birds, fish, sea lions and other creatures. The tour lasts approximately one hour. Advanced booking is required.

Every Sunday in January, February and March is Senior Sunday — From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seniors can receive complimentary coffee and the news in the center's lobby at no cost. Seniors 55 years and older (with ID) also will receive a 50 percent discount on admission fees.

Today and Feb. 21, the center will hold kids days with free admission for children 12 and younger accompanied by an adult. The days will include coloring, games, movies and trivia contests as well as entrance to the regular exhibits.
