Games extends volunteer deadline

Arctic Winter Games organizers have extended the deadline for volunteers to sign up to Feb. 1.

Games General Manager Tim Dillon announced the extension at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon Wednesday at Paradisos in Kenai. Dillon praised chamber members for their support and urged members to try and get the word out about volunteering.

“This is kind of last call, trying to get everybody in there,” Dillon said.

He also said Feb. 1 is the furthest the deadline can be pushed, as all Games volunteers must pass a background check before being cleared to participate.

The most pressing need at this point, he said, is setting up more than 1,000 bunk beds in schools for visiting athletes.

“We’re asking if groups want to donate time to come over and put together the beds on Thursday and Friday (before the Games),” Dillon said.

Anyone interested in volunteering can visit the AWG Web site at or call 262-2006 for more information.
