Bagley to speak at chamber lunch today

Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Dale Bagley will be the guest speaker at today's North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce luncheon, at noon at the Lighthouse Inn. It is open to the public.

EDD board meeting and open house set for today

The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District monthly board of directors meeting will be held at 1 p.m. today at the EDD building. It will be followed at 3 p.m. by an open house. The EDD building is at Mile 14.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. For more information, call 283-3355.

AARP meets today

The American Association of Retired Persons Local No. 745 will meet at 1 p.m. today at the Kenai Senior Center. Lunch will be served prior to the meeting. Officers for the new year will be installed.

Public asked to voice opinion on arts

Public discussion on the need for an arts-education center in the Kenai area will continue today at 5 p.m. at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss the reorganization and new focus of the Kenai Arts and Humanities Council and to seek qualified board members to get involved. League of Women Voters meets today

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of the League of Women Voters will meet today at 6 p.m. in room C of the Borough Building in Soldotna. The guest speaker will be Borough Clerk Linda Murphy, who will give an update on redistricting.

Sterling Community Club annual meeting today

The annual meeting of the Sterling Community Club will be held today in the log cabin at the corner of the Sterling Highway and Swanson River Road at 7:30 p.m. There will be an election of three board members, and there will be planning for the winter fun day.

Dog racers to meet tonight

The Peninsula Sled Dog Racing Association will meet today at Bridges in Soldotna at 7 p.m. There will be drawings for the Ty Clark Memorial Sled Dog Race at that time. Also on the agenda are election of two new members to the board of directors. Anyone interested in dog-powered sports is welcome to attend.

Borough office to conduct siren test

The Kenai Peninsula Borough's Office of Emergency Management will conduct its alert siren test today at noon. This test is conducted the first Thursday of each month unless it's a holiday.

Bridges to hold board meeting Saturday

Bridges Community Resource Network will hold its regular board of directors meeting Saturday at 10 a.m. It is open to all Bridges members or any interested community members.

Tuesday business workshop to focus on bids

An introductory workshop on bidding for government contracts will be held Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kenai Small Business Development Center at the Red Diamond Center. For more information, call 262-7497.

Raising goats subject of extension office meeting

Raising goats as pets or for milk or meat will be the subject of a 1 p.m. Saturday meeting at the Cooperative Extension Office on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The meeting is open to the public and 4-H members as well.

The annual meeting for Healthy Communities-Healthy People will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. There is room on the agenda for reports from organizations in the community.

Registration deadline looms

The last day to register for classes at Kenai Peninsula College is Monday. Registration can be done at the college library between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. today and Monday, or 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Phillips offers high school scholarships

The Phillips Alaska scholarship program awards more than $74,000 in scholarships to Alaska high school seniors annually. The deadline to apply for the 2001 Phillips scholarships is Jan. 25. Applications are available from counselors at Alaska high schools or by calling Phillips Alaska at (907) 263-4329.

Center to provide for those in need

The Independent Living Center will put together a Community Closet to provide those with disabilities with equipment at a low cost. The center is looking for donations of wheelchairs, walkers and equipment for vision and hearing impairments.

Rotary club in need of computers

The Soldotna Rotary Club is looking for donations of used computers with a Pentium or equivalent processor. These computers will be refurbished and used to supply Rotary International Programs.

Entrants sought for contest

The Showin' Off the Kids lip sync and choreography contest, sponsored by Soldotna Community Schools, is looking for entrants from kindergarten to eighth grade. The deadline for applications is Feb. 7. The contest will be held on Feb. 22. For more information, call 262-6768.
