Kuskokwim 300 delayed by warm weather

BETHEL (AP) -- The start of the Kuskokwim 300 Sled Dog Race has been delayed.

Race officials pushed back the start of the race from Friday to Saturday afternoon because of unusually warm weather and deteriorating trail conditions.

Changes were made to the race course this year, partly to avoid slushy conditions on parts of the trail.

Eighteen mushers will be running the race.

The mushers drew their starting positions Wednesday night. Defending and five-time champion Jeff King drew second place. Charlie Boulding will leave in 13th position, DeeDee Jonrowe is 14th and Martin Buser is 16th.
